Jen’s Fall Beauty Haul

The much anticipated, long over-due fall haul is FINALLY here.

Basically, I went a little crazy at Target, Sephora and Ulta. Really though, those stores are the hardest to control myself in, especially Target. One second I’m going up and down the dollar section. The next, I have a cart full of things from the clearance isles I probably don’t need.

You might notice that many of these products are the same brand, or brands that aren’t necessarily main stream. I prefer to use products that are cruelty-free, and many of my choices are from brands that are certified Leaping Bunny companies. These are marked with a *.

Now that I’ve had a while to try out the products and construct my honest opinion on them, I thought it was time to share my purchases and experiences.

giovanniGiovanni Smooth as Silk Deep Moisture Shampoo*

Lately, my hair changed from having a slight curl to drying relatively straight. I have no explanation other than a shampoo I started using in August. A sales rep for one of my favorite companies informed me that one of the company’s shampoos did not contain sulfates. When it arrived in the mail, however, it indeed contained sulfates. I’m afraid this damaged my hair to the point of removing its natural texture. In order to restore the damage, I decided to pick up a giovanni shampoo, one without sulfates that’s made for damaged frizzy hair.

So far I like it, I think it’s a good shampoo for the price I paid. In the long run, I think I’d rather go back to an Alterna or Nexxus shampoo.

Yes To Coconut Curl Defining Hair Smoother*

I bought this product also hoping it would help out with restoring my wavy texture. I have to say, I am pretty disappointed. I normally love Yes To products, but this one does not perform as advertised. Since the purchase, I mainly use the smoother to tame fly aways and add a nice coconut-y fragrance to my hair.

Nyx love in parisNYX Love In Paris Eye Shadow Palette in Merci Beaucoup*

This palette is PERFECT for fall. I love the dark burgundy shade, and it complements the other various shades of brown. The matter colors aren’t as pigmented as the shimmer colors. However, I haven’t found it too much of a problem when patted in on top of a eye primer.

Simple Skincare Set (Travel Case with Facial Wipes, Facial Wash and Moisturizer)

I originally made a stop at Target solely for a new face moisturizer. I found this Simple kit with three full-sized products for only $15 and I just couldn’t pass it up. So far, all of the products work well with my skin type. My skin is fairly sensitive, and all of the products moisturize and clean without redness or irritation.

Zoya Nail Polish in Claire and Genevieve*

I wanted to find new nail polishes for the fall in darker shades than the ones I currently own. Zoya is my favorite brand, and despite many other beautiful, rich colors from other companies, the Zoya fall collection mesmerized me. Claire is a dark burgundy-brown shade, more so brown than anything. Geneviev is a dark gun-metal gray. Both are wonderful choices for fall, and well worth the purchase.

Almay Smart Shade CC Cream in Light*

Long story short, I normally use Bare Minerals powder foundation, but I wanted another option for days when a powder seems too drying. I personally like this CC cream because the coverage isn’t too much. I don’t like to cover my freckles, and I feel like this CC Cream does a good job at providing a base layer without too much pigmentation. The only drawback is the smell. To me, it smells too much like sunscreen.

pysformPhysicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Eyeliner and Serum in Deep Brown*

I’m very happy with my purchase of this felt tip eyeliner. It’s just the kind of simple everyday liner I was looking for. The best part of this liner is the lash-growing serum. I already noticed darker and thicker lashes in the last few weeks.

NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel*

I am exactly as the name of this product describes: a control freak. I needed a good eyebrow gel that would hold my brows without being too crispy or too loose. This brow gel does a great job – a little goes a long way.

NYX Butter Gloss in Madeleine*

Other than Creme Brulee, this butter gloss is my new favorite. It’s neutral brown without being too “natural”. Like all butter glosses, the formula is prime, leaving my lips feeling soft without too much glossiness.

NYX Soft Matte LipCream in Cannes*

This matte lip cream would be a great neutral pink for someone with a slightly olive skin tone. Unfortunately, my skin tone is too light. I still love wearing the lip color with a layer of gloss on top, bringing a hint of warmth to the color.

"Whipped Caviar"
“Whipped Caviar”

NYX Matte Lipstick in Whipped Caviar and in Natural*

I LOVE these matte lipsticks. I might have taken the 90s browny-mauve matte a little too far because these colors are very similar. My favorite of the too, though, is very much Whipped Caviar. First of all, that name is like hands down the coolest thing ever. As well, the color is a beautiful mauve for fall, and I can foresee it transitioning smoothly into a lovely color for winter and winter sweaters.

NYX Butter Lip Balm in Brownie and in Macaron*

I’m not going to lie, one of the only reasons I bought one of these balms is because of the “macaron” name. The product itself is very summery and I can see myself getting more use out of it one winter is over. The “brownie” shade is a great alternative to a plain lip balm, when the air is a little cooler and lips need moisturizer more than a drying lipstick.

Smith’s Strawberry Lip Balm*

I use this lip balm every morning and every evening. Other than it’s miraculously sweet scent, the lip balm lasts hours. The formula is very smooth and never leaves my lips feeling sticky, which I love. I think I might have to go back and get the mint scent for a balm on-the-go in addition to keeping this one on my nightstand.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Honey*

Of all the things I bought in my haul, this is my FAVORITE. I am obsessed with everything about this product: the formula, the smell, the color, the product packaging. “Honey” is a sheer neutral with almost hints of peach. The smell reminds me of a lip smacker I used when I was little mixed with fruit candy, and it’s divine. I can’t wait to buy more of these lip treatments.
